Along with my usual Highstreet post this week, I thought I would give you a bit of an insight into what I’ve been up to and add to the “Her” section of my blog.
I’m constantly frustrated by my measly attempts at cooking dinner (as is my boyfriend), which usually ends with a dry, undercooked and generally tasteless mass of food being served, much to the disappointment of the poor individual I choose to torture with my (lack of) cooking skills. Needless to say, I thought it was about time I actually did something about it.
I found out about Recipease completely by chance. Recipease are a number of Jamie Oliver shops that combine a food store with kitchen workshops, at which you can learn how to cook a huge variety of dishes in group sessions. Not one to ease myself in gently, I booked onto the ‘Thai Feast’ course along with my Mum and sister.
The whole experience was brilliant, I even got to learn a few knife skills. Sounds simple, but as I said before, being a complete beginner I need all the help I can get, and learning how not to cut off your thumb whilst chopping vegetables is always a great help!
I made hot and sour soup complete with king prawns, followed by sticky beef, jasmine rice and sautéed greens! I know, I’m even impressed writing this now. We were also given a pudding – poached pineapple in a sweet lemongrass and lime syrup, finished with a coconut rice pudding made by the Chef herself. We were also taught how to recreate this once at home.
All the Recipease cookery courses are outlined here. I would definitely recommend doing one as something a little different to do at the weekend. Currently, they only have 3 Recipease stores; 1 in Clapham Junction (London), 1 in Notting Hill (London) and 1 in Brighton.
Let me know if you like these types of blog posts.
